Job Title

John Cocker is head of the Biological Monitoring Section of the Health and Safety Laboratory in the HK.He leads a team of around 8 graduate and post-doctoral scientists providing biological monitoring services to HSE, other government departments and private firms to help with assessment of occupational exposure to hazardous substances.The section also conducts research and development work, including human volunteer studies, aimed at developing and validating new monitoring methods and providing data to help in the interpretation of results.John has over 30 years experience in the field of biological monitoring and is a key advisor within the UK Health & Safety Executive on biological monitoring methods, policy, setting guidance values and interpreting results.John is a member of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists and the American Industrial Hygiene Association biological monitoring committees and has acted as a temporary advisor to the World Health Organisation.

John Cocker is a Senior Scientist at HSL, he has recently been appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee on Pesticides (ACP).
